Road construction to finish in 2022

Approach roads to Haba Snow Mountain closed down from Autumn 2020 to Spring 2021 in order to prepare for major road reconstruction. While the roads reopened May 2021, they are in poor condition and will remain so until construction completes in 2022. The affected roads include the highway from Qiaotou Town through Tiger Leaping Gorge and continuing along the east side of the mountain to Haba Village, Baishuitai and north to Shangri-La City. There could be significant delays as portions shut down to allow equipment to work unhindered. Bus service from Lijiang and Shangri-La to Tina’s Guest House in the gorge is operating despite the bad roads. The new expressway from Lijiang to Shangri-La is open and in good condition with drive times of 2-3 hours and toll about 120rmb.
